“ I learnt how to kite from kind tourists. ”
Can you tell us a bit more about your passion for kitesurfing?
Kiteboarding wasn't just my passion, it was my lifeline. Growing up in Cabarete, it is paradise, but it is also one of the poorest towns in the DR. I learnt how to kite from kind tourists who would lend me their equipment, and as soon as I could ride, it became an escape from my reality. Fast forward to today, the Olympics has just added kiteboarding and, I'm coming up on my 10 years anniversary with F-One now, who gave me my shot at the international competitive league. What a great time to be alive!
You just won the lottery, what would you do first?
My grandparents raised me, and they can't afford to retire just yet. They would be my first priority, then I'd want to take my fiance and my daughter on a 6 month tour of the world!
Tunisia! My fiance is originally from there so I'm really excited to experience her culture and I hear the kiting is great in Jerba.
“ When there's no wind,... I could spend the whole day in the water fishing. ”
What’s the most amazing thing you’ve experienced?
Any of the locations of our F-one video shoots - probably Madagascar!! It took about 6 flights, and a very long drive to get to our location, but it was unforgettable!
What are you doing during a day without wind?
I love to spearfish!! When there's no wind, the ocean is calm, I could spend the whole day in the water fishing.
