Matt lives at the beach in the windy city of Cape Town, the perfect playground for a waterman.

He hardly spends a day without being on the water; he loves to kitesurf, Stand-Up Paddle, surf, surf foil and downwind, excelling in each discipline. And yet, he still found time to study industrial design and now works as a product designer.

Matt Interview

Can you tell us a bit more about your passion for kitesurfing?

My dad took me to Langebaan, South Africa when I was a kid and within a few days I was hooked. Since then, living in the wind magnet of the world, Cape Town, it has just been something that I struggle to go one day without.

You just won the lottery, what would you do first?

I would buy kites for all the underprivileged children living in Cape Town so that they could learn to kite and use our wind to train everyday and become professional kiters.

What’s the most amazing thing you’ve experienced?

Being woken up at 3am in the Maldives to swim with whale sharks in the dark, in the middle of nowhere off a yacht.

“My dad took me to Langebaan... and within a few days I was hooked.”
What are you doing during a day without wind?

I am either in the water foiling, SUP’ing or surfing, or I work as a product designer.
